A small mask from the Kwoma tribe of Papua, New Guinea, early to mid 20th Century. The Kwoma way of life is centered around yams, which is their primary source of food and trade. This particular mask represents a Yenastab, one of the guardians used to protect the huge mounds of yams that are harvested by the tribe. Provenance: a private collection in France.
